General Information

  • The game we play is short mat bowling that originated in Northern Ireland. In its early days mat dimensions and interalia bowls sizes varied amongst the clubs. In 1961 secretaries and other representatives of dozens of clubs met and at an inaugural meeting on 13 September 1961 formed the Irish Indoor Bowling Association. The agreed, standardised rules, have remained largely unchanged since the 1960s. See http://www.iiba.co.uk/Laws_Of_The_Game.aspx

  • The  World Indoor Bowls Council (WIBC), established in 1983 is the controlling body for the indoor version of the flat green game. Its constituent members include the English Indoor Bowling Association, the Association of Irish Indoor Bowls, the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association, the Welsh Indoor Bowls Association and the Malaysian Lawn Bowling Federation.                                                                         See http://www.frixo.com/sbook/events/world-indoor-championship.asp for the full text. This is the game we sometimes see on television described as the "World Championships".

  • We enjoy occasional group visits to meet with bowlers from other clubs for friendly competitions.

  • New players are always welcome, if you have not played before we will explain how to play.

  • The Shannon Leisure Centre has car parking front, side and rear.
